Girl Scouts of Gulfcoast Florida, Inc.
Sandi Stewart is the chief executive officer of Girl Scouts of Gulfcoast Florida, Inc., a Girl Scout council that serves nearly 9,000 girls on the Gulf Coast of Florida from the Skyway Bridge to the Everglades. Sandi has been part of the movement for over 20 years, serving first as a volunteer, then Finance Director and has been CEO since 1998. Under her stewardship, the council has seen a 15% increase in girl membership and a volunteer retention rate of 80%. Her strategic initiative to reach every girl everywhere has resulted in an increase in membership diversity from 10% to 40% and her financial savvy has increased the council’s net worth from $2 million to over $16 million. Despite its relative small size, the Gulfcoast Council is one of the most financially strong Girl Scout councils in the nation.
Sandi most recently led the successful execution of a $7.8 million capital campaign and built a Gulfcoast Council regional headquarters located in Sarasota. This 12 acre state of the art campus surrounds ancient Florida wetlands and was built with green technology. The campus consists of an administration building for staff and a 12,500 square foot conference center where girls and troops will meet. The facility also serves as an event and conference center and is available for rent to outside groups.
Sandi earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in education at Samford University and completed the Executive Education Program for not-for-profit management from Case Western Reserve University. She is also certified by Girl Scouts of the USA as a Girl Scout CEO.
Sandi is a sustaining member of the Junior League of Sarasota and is a Section III nominating committee member of the National Association of Girl Scout Executives. She also serves as president for the Florida Girl Scout Councils Legislative Network and currently serves on the Governance Task Group of Girl Scouts of the USA.
